If you are installing new cones in your Mini you will need to use this for compressing the front cones. This single thread tool will fit all new cones as all cones have been metric thread since 1976. We sell this tool outright as it is pretty cheap as is.
Cone Compressor - Single Thread
Instructions:
Generally you will not need to compress cones to remove them. If you do simply follow steps 2-4, then repeat from step 1.
To use installer:
1: Remove old cones and upper arms.
2: Remove subframe tower bolts, two on pre-76 cars along with locking plate, one bolt on 76on.
3. Position nut at top of the inner threads, then insert threaded section into tool body and position in hole.
4. Thread tool into cone using an allen key while holding cone up in tower. Confirm threads are protruding from cone slightly. (Some cones need to have threads cleaned before install)
5. While holding inner thread with an allen key, tighten the large nut on tool using a 15/16 wrench. This will pull the threaded portion up, compressing the cone. DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS.
6. Compress cone about 4 or so turns. and attempt to fit trumpet/Hi-Lo and knuckle joint, along with upper arm. If you need more room, keep compressing the cone.
7. Once arm, kncukle, trumpet/hi lo is fitted on new cone simply back off the nut allowing pressure to return. (Note: Shocks should be installed along with the rebound buffer at this point)
8. Unthread inner section and remove tool. Refit tower bolt(s). Repeat for other side.
